The European fishery business is going through a big transition. The European Union demands more communication between the member states, in a unified way.
Our team contributed as Belgium to several open-source microservices in order to exchange and inspect info about fishery sales. An amazing project which involved international collaboration and reverse-engineering communication with sattelites.
Enter UnionVMS: an open-source vessel management system, built with modularity and extensibility in mind. This project has been started by Sweden and the European Commission, and Belgium joins in 2017.
Our code can be found at Github.
One problem: Landbouw & Visserij, the official instance for fishery in Belgium, is a .NET bastion, while this open source framework is being built in Java! That's where Mathias Bulté and I come in!
During this project, we've not only worked on the project, we built up a complete Java delivery pipeline with TFS, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Nexus and Docker.
